This semester, Lina Ghotmeh is Louis I. Kahn Visiting Professor of Architectural Design at the Yale School of Architecture. Her Advanced Studio explores Architecture through a research-driven and hands-on approach, raising questions around the post-traumatic landscape, memory, ruins and the vernacular reconstruction. The University of Toronto - School of Architecture welcomes Lina Ghotmeh as its Frank O. Gehry International Visiting Chair in Architectural Design for the academic year of 2021–2022. During her appointment, her research studio “Potent Voids” explores with third-year Master of Architecture students the post-traumatic landscape.
Lina Ghotmeh on the jury panel for the The Royal Institute of British Architects' 185th President’s Medals — the world’s most prestigious awards in architectural education. Judging the Silver Medals category alongside her: Mina Hasman, Tracy Meller, Simon Allford, Harry Charrington and Ed Frith. The 2021 edition includes the highest number of participants in the awards' history, including students from over 442 schools located in 85 countries.
Putting on display the recently completed “Stone Garden” tower in Beirut, this installation unveils the tools of a hand-crafted architecture that emerges with a new vernacular form in the city of Beirut. Visitors discover a tactical process of making through handmade earthworks put at display. A 2.5 meters high model brings forward in its intimacy works of prominent Lebanese artists and photographers as essential vehicles to the understanding of the city and its identity.
LG—A is shortlisted for the Antuo Hill Museums Urban Design and Architectural Concept Design Competition, alongside 4 other teams: 2Portzamparc, AECOM and BIAD / JKMM, AUBE and Barker Langham / MLA, Nieto Sobejano Arquitectos GmbH, GCAM2 LLC and WADI Studio / MVRDV, Guangzhou Design Institute, Beijing Center for the Arts and Artron Art Group. LG—A is a lead team with AAarchitects, ARUP, Systematica and WOWA.
The prize honors architect Erich Schelling and is awarded by the foundation every two years. Nominated alongside Lina Ghotmeh: Ted’A Arquitectes, and Xu Tiantian / DNA_Design and Architecture.
Among 472 entries, LG—A is finalist for the Competition of the Museum housing Finnish businesswoman and art collector Sara Hildén’s collection. For this museum, we imagined an architecture knitting together its past as a textile manufacture zone run in majority by women, to its future as a multidisciplinary platform for dialogue and cultural exchange in Finland.
Lina Ghotmeh — Architecture winner of the Nantes Métropole “Saupin Ouest” competition. Linking together earth, sky and water, the Îlot Saupin tower cuts against the clouds like a sailbaoat. The program weaves together housing, a nordic swimming pool and a rooftop terasse.
On the occasion of the 17th Biennale Architettura in Venice, Konfekt brought together Lina Ghotmeh, Tomohisa Miyauchi, Valentina Ciuffi, Giulia Foscari and Olga Subirós, around a lunch at Trattoria Corte Sconta for a convivial talk about architecture, climate, creativity and the Biennale.
